    O nome "São 🔑 João da Mata" foi adotado por volta de 1860, quando os jesuítas foram expulsos em viagem pelo rio Paranaíba.

    Em decorrência 🔑 dos conflitos que estes acarretavam no atual estado de Minas Gerais, o nome foi alterado para "Aldeia do Rio Formoso", 🔑 pelo Decreto de Suazilândia, em 20 demaio de 1885.
